Geography
Located at app. 650 meters altitude in the middle part of
southern Norway, Hemsedal connects the eastern and western part of Norway.
Only three hours drive from Oslo, the small town of Hemsedal facilitates one
of the most popular ski resorts in Norway, hosting app. 500 000 skiing days
pr year.

Activities in Hemsedal
Aside skiing in the resort, the mountains of Hemsedal are
great for ski touring, hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain biking,
horse riding, golfing etc. There is an own children’s area in the ski
resort.

for instance some direct buses from Oslo Airport to Hemsedal during the

The town
During the winter season the number of people in Hemsedal
increase up to 10-fold from its original 1800 inhabitants. Being a popular
ski resort, Hemsedal offers a multitude of restaurants, pubs and other
social arenas.
The Symposium Venue
JOSMAR 2008 takes place in and around the town centre. The
lectures will take place in the town cinema, at Skogstad Hotel and in
Hugnadheim, the town’s hall for cultural events. The workshops will take
place at different outdoor locations in close proximity to the town and ski
resort.
